Safety & Pioneering
Governors' Balloon Safaris pioneered hot air ballooning in the Mara in the 1970's and we have been flying safely here ever since.
Our equipment is custom built in Australia especially for Kenyan conditions by Kavanagh Balloons, one of the world's leading manufacturers of ballooning equipment.
Best flight path in the Mara
The flight is typically between 45 minutes and an hour.
Taking off at dawn from our sheltered launch site at Little Governors’
Camp, we drift with the breeze along what is widely accepted as the best
balloon flight path in the Mara.

The Experience
After landing, toast your flight with bubbly and enjoy a wonderful al fresco bush breakfast cooked fresh for you out on the plains - an experience in itself. Afterwards enjoy a leisurely drive back to your camp or lodge.
Cast of Characters
You're in safe hands with some of the most experienced pilots in the business—drawn from around the world, our team brings the skill and knowledge you'd expect from a premier flight operation. They’re backed by a dedicated ground crew who assist at takeoff and landing, and serve you a delicious breakfast. The pilots of Governors’ Balloon Safaris are the most experienced in all of Africa, with a combined 225 years and over 25,000 hours in the air.

Community & Conservation
We are proud of our long and rich history of supporting community development and conservation.
For example, we played a key role in establishing the Maa Trust’s Talek Hospital and have consistently supported Narok County rangers with night patrol vehicles to help keep the ecosystem safe after dark.
